Heidenhain LC 185 Linear Encoders feature long measuring lengths, high ruggedness, and superb vibration tolerance, allowing them to thrive in harsh environments. An efficient seal design with double lips provides optimal protection from chips, dust, and coolant. Due to the diagonal orientation of the sealing is the scanning unit’s sword, the encoder can be mounted either upright or on its side.
Heidenhain LC 185 Linear Encoders use optical scanning measuring standards of periodic structures known as graduations. These graduations are applied to glass and then generate an incremental signal. These scales have a grating period of 20 um.
The LC linear encoders deliver consistently high accuracy. A high-quality, very low-wear ceramic coupling prevents wear-induced inaccuracy throughout the service life of the encoder.
The Heidenhain LC 185 Linear Encoders have measuring lengths from 140-4240 mm. They have an EnDat 2.2 serial interface and an EnDat02 ordering designation. When measuring up to 3040 mm the accuracy is ± 3 um or ± 5 um, anything above is ± 5 um. A 150 m or less cable can be used for this linear encoder. These encoders have a maximum traversing speed of 180 m/min through a single field scanning unit.
A Heidenhain LC 185 sealed linear encoder fulfills the requirements for IP53 protection provided that they are sealed and mounted with the lips facing away from splashed water. If the encoder is exposed to concentrations of coolant or mist a protective cover should be used, or sealing air can be used to provide IP64 protection to more effectively prevent the ingress of contamination. This can be achieved with a DA 400 compressed air unit.
