Heidenhain RCN Absolute Angle Encoders are designed with integral bearing, hollow haft, and stator coupling. Because of the design of the stator coupling along with the mounting, it must absorb only the torque that is caused by friction in the bearing, particularly during acceleration.
Heidenhains newest RCN encoders are the RCN 2001, 5001, and 8001. These new RCN encoders have many benefits compared to their previous models. With higher system accuracy the RCN 2001 and RCN 5001 series are available in system accuracies of ± 2″ and ± 4″. The RCN 8001 remains available in system accuracies of ± 1″ and ± 2″. Optimized scanning has made the encoders so forgiving that liquid contaminants or drops of condensation have little to no effect on the scanning signals and thus the motor control.
Shaft speeds for the RCN 2001 and RCN 5001 encoders can achieve 3000 rpm, while the RCN 8001 can achieve speeds of 1500 rpm. These speeds largely depend on the internal encoder temperature.
